Primates
Pet primates provide a unique challenge for healthcare maintenance. Nutritional management is very important and there are more diseases that can be transmitted between people and primates than with many other pets. Consultation and evaluation generally takes a longer period of time than with other pet species as well.
Routine wellness visits are recommended and annual TB tests are required for our primate patients.
Recommendations for primate wellness:
- Examination
- Vaccination
- Tuberculosis testing (TB)
- Blood profile evaluation (age dependent)
- Fecal parasite screening
- Fecal laboratory culture
To schedule a primate consultation, give us a call at (972) 247-2242 to arrange a time. Please plan ahead for this service as primate appointments are specially scheduled and are only available when Dr. Landers is working. We do not treat greater apes or Rhesus monkeys.
